My name is Jamilah Rosemond, I am 17 years old and a junior at the OCVTS Performing Arts Academy in Lakehurst, NJ. I am a high honor roll student and I serve on the student council board as vice president for class of 2019. I enjoy singing, dancing, acting, playing basketball, color guard, learning new things and helping those in need. I am part of Girl Be Heard, which develops, amplifies, and celebrates the voices of young women through socially conscious theatre-making. I am also one of the new hosts for American Girl’s YouTube web series, AG Life.
Besides doing well in school and focusing on my talent, it’s also a passion of mine to give back to those in need therefore, I joined Rays of Hope (ROH). With this organization I have volunteered my time and services throughout my community and out of my community. Some of my favorite projects are working with children.
Because of my exposure to many young ladies, I witness a lot of them suffer from insecurities and lack of resources to guide and help them with their vision. Consequently, I formed Girls With Beauty & Brains, which supports girls in being confident, expose them to other powerful women, motivate them, help them to succeed and link them to the right resources. I want to be that connection, by making girls aware of how empowering women are and the important role women play in this world.
Last but not least, I am active in my church by serving in the dance ministry and in the youth choir. My mother always told me, “before you give back to anyone, make sure you give back to God first”. I am a strong believer of that statement. My faith in God is the reason why I can do the things I do.
I am a girl with beauty and brains!!
