You might recognize this beauty from her role in the Harry Potter series, and more recently, in  Beauty and the Beast. Although she is an actress, she is also an unapologetic feminist. Our terrific woman this Friday is Emma Watson!

In 2014 she was appointed as a U.N. Women Goodwill Ambassador and led a campaign called #HeforShe, which was a call for men to advocate for gender equality. Emma believes that a lot of feminist groups have also become a men hating group as well, but they shouldn’t go hand in hand. Emma acknowledged how feminism can benefit both men and women.

“We don’t often talk about men being imprisoned by gender stereotypes, but I can see that they are and that when they are free, things will change for women as a natural consequence…If men don’t have to be aggressive in order to be accepted, women won’t feel compelled to be submissive. If men don’t have to control, women won’t have to be controlled.”

Although I have never thought about it like that, Emma is right and is on the right path to making a difference. She believes if men actually join the movement and stand up to other men who aren’t treating women respectfully, it can cause a positive domino effect and change the way men view women.

Something I love about Emma is that she created a fierce feminist book club and hides books in public places for others to discover. How cool and creative is that?!

Thank you, Emma, for continuously using your platform to speak on feminism and also teaching people what feminism is really about. Emma Watson is a girl with beauty and brains!
