“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak” – Rachel Zoe. At just 11 years old, Tavi Gevinson would post pictures of her most distinctive outfits on her fashion blog, Style Rookie. What she didn’t know at the time was that her blog would lead her to her very own magazine.
When Tavi first started her blog she would commentate on the latest fashion trends and share her fashion tips, of course. Many people were interested in this pre-teen’s ideas and opinions on fashion for she was getting about 30,000 readers a day! Her blog began to get more known and she was being asked to be interviewed by big platforms such as The New York Times. Then Tavi was getting invited to New York and Paris’ Fashion Week.
When there is success, there are also haters and many adults would backlash Tavi Gevinson. They considered her success as gimmicky, and nitpicked her blog constantly. However, with support from family and her passion to write, Tavi didn’t let that negative energy stop her.
She founded her own magazine, Rookie, at the age of 15. Her platform focuses on the issues impacting teenage girls, and she allows other teenage girls to write for it as well. Tavi Gevinson is now 22 years old and is still using Rookie to empower girls. Tavi’s drive and confidence have helped her become so successful at such an early age. She is a great example of a girl with beauty and brains.
