“There’s a Glitch in our Online Communities” #TWT

In 2017, a brilliant organization named Glitch was created. Seyi Akiwowo, who is 28 years old, is the one behind the organization and designed it to end online abuse.

Did you know that women are 27 times more likely to be harassed online than men, and if you’re a women of color it is a lot worse?

Seyi Akiwowo experienced online abuse herself and felt that there wasn’t much guidance or anyone to help her. She decided to take matters into her own hands and started Glitch to support women and girls who are victims of online abuse as well as help them stand up for their rights. Through many online campaigns and media coverage, Glitch was finally able to get social media platforms to take action.

Aside from Glitch, Seyi was elected as the youngest black female councillor in east London in 2014 and last year, she was named Amnesty international’s Human Rights Defender.

It is so inspiring for Seyi to rise from her trauma and create a platform to help prevent girls from online harassment, especially because social media is prominent in our generation. I admire her strength and her ability to be an advocate for all women. Seyi Akiwowo is a girl with beauty and brains!

Celebrity Kids Fashion Show + July’s Fabulous Confabulations

Hello, Beauties! This is a series of Fabulous Confabulations that I took at the Celebrity Kids Fashion Show when I was a red carpet correspondent! These chats are mostly on the fun side but they are also informative.

It was my first time being a red carpet correspondent so at first, I was kind of nervous. But, once I did the first interview, I realized that it is no different than doing my formal Fabulous Confabulations.

The people in this chat include Donshea Hopkins, the Dowe Twins, Madison Rosa, Brielle Whiting, Fatoumata Toure, Kaliyah Howard, Tasha Tahaj, Diansia, Taliah, Cool School of Performing Arts, and Pilar Scratch. All of their social media is listed in the video.

Enjoy and comment what your favorite part of the video is!!

She is the president and co-founder of RewardStyle #TWT

This Tuesday’s terrific woman is Amber Venz. This young entrepreneur is the president and co-founder of RewardStyle, which is a monetization platform for top-tier beauty, fashion, and lifestyle publishers.

Before creating her platform, Amber worked in many areas of fashion. As a freshman in college, she launched her own jewelry line and she sold it to retailers across the U.S. Then she worked as a freelance stylist in LA. But after all of that, Amber realized that she wanted to help other entrepreneurs, bloggers, and retailers. RewardStyle has over 4,000 retailers and 14,000 publishers on their network. It allows them to promote their content and it has brought many shoppers to purchase more than $250 million in merchandise.  Amber is a girl with beauty and brains!

She was YouTube’s Biggest Star #TWT

YouTube is a great platform when used the right way, to make videos on what you have a passion for. People use YouTube to give tutorials, vlog about their life, or share a talent they have, like singing. YouTube simply gives viewers an opportunity to escape from the real world. Our terrific woman this Tuesday is Michelle Phan, who is a beauty pioneer and vlogger. She was one of YouTube’s biggest stars. She was also the co-founder of Ipsy, a $500 million beauty company.

For those who don’t know Ipsy is a $10 monthly subscription for a “glam bag” that gives you samples of beauty products. The products that aren’t sold are donated to charity. I use to get my monthly “glam bags” every month and I loved it! It was something to look forward to at the beginning of every month.

Michelle is considered the first YouTuber who received a large mass of subscribers. Like I mentioned, she was first working on Ipsy but decided to leave and partner with L’Oréal on Em Cosmetics. Em did end up failing the first time but with a break from social media for a whole year, Michelle came back and relaunched it without L’Oréal in April 2017. Michelle decided she wanted to stay behind the scenes, instead of being a YouTube star.

The rebirth of Em was successful because Michelle made products more affordable for people. She is considered a powerful leader and entrepreneur, and I would agree. She has inspired many girls of our generation to use YouTube as a platform to express themselves and showcase their talents. She also impacts many girls’ lives with Ipsy glam bags and Em Cosmetics. Michelle Phan is a girl with beauty and brains!
